The shutout was the first in the series for the Irish, securing a 10-9-1 all-time record over the Wolverines in Notre Dame Stadium. The Notre Dame-Michigan series began on November 23 1887, Notre Dame's very first football game. After Notre Dame beat Michigan for the first time in 1909, the Wolverines refused to play the Irish on a regular basis until 1978. The shutout was the first in the series for the Irish, securing a 10-9-1 all-time record over the Wolverines in Notre Dame Stadium. The Notre Dame-Michigan series began on November 23 1887, Notre Dame's very first football game. After Notre Dame beat Michigan for the first time in 1909, the Wolverines refused to play the Irish on a regular basis until 1978. The game photographed here marked the last one to be played between the two teams.
