Picture: This 13.5 X 40 panorama of the Montreal Canadiens playing on home ice has been professionally double matted in team colors and framed to 18 X 44. Established in 1909, the Canadiens are the longest continuously operating professional ice hockey team, as well as one of the oldest sports franchises in North America. They are the only existing National Hockey League club to predate the founding of the NHL in 1917, and are one of the Original Six teams that composed the NHL for 25 seasons (1942-1967). As of 2011, the Canadiens were still by far the NHL's most successful club, having won a record 24 Stanley Cup Championships since its inception.

It features the Boston Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens as they take to the ice at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. This regular season outdoor National Hockey League event celebrated the matchup between two historic rivals, who have played 708 games between them at the time of this event, the second most of any NHL opponents. While this was the Canadiens’ cameo appearance at the NHL Winter Classic, it was their third outdoor game. This was the second time the Bruins hosted and played in the event.

Since 1999 when this franchise came into the league it was called the Atlanta Thrashers. The inaugural Winnipeg game marked the regular season debut of the Winnipeg Jets in their second incarnation and their return to the NHL after a 15-year hiatus. On May 31, 2011, it was announced that True North Sports & Entertainment Limited would relocate the Atlanta Thrashers of the National Hockey League to Winnipeg for the 2011-12 season. Within minutes of making season tickets available to the public, the team reached its 13,000 seat target. At the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, True North Chairman, Mark Chipman, announced the team name would be called the Winnipeg Jets. The new logos pay homage to the Royal Canadian Air Force.
